Financial arrangements and prior approval

Patients with Southern Cross Insurance

Oasis Surgical and Auckland Eye are affiliated providers to Southern Cross Health Society. This means that when you are undergoing cataract, pterygium or cross linking treatment with us we will be able to obtain prior approval for your procedure on your behalf. Depending on your policy cover, you may have an excess to pay which will be collected from you on the day of surgery. As an affiliated provider we are also able to submit your claim form and invoices directly to Southern Cross on your behalf.

Please let our bookings clerks know your Southern Cross policy number prior to your surgery date by contacting Kathy on (09) 524 1569 or Leonie on (09) 524 1561. Alternatively, you can email the information through to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you are covered by insurance for your surgery, you will need to arrange your own "prior approval" for your procedure. This enables the insurance company to pay their share of the account rather than you paying first and then claiming a refund (if applicable). Please ensure you inform our bookings clerks of your prior approval number prior to your surgery date by contacting Kathy on (09) 524 1569 or Leonie on (09) 524 1561. Or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You will be issued with invoices for your procedure on the day of surgery or a few days later. We request that you forward all invoices directly to your insurance company for payment. Any late or non-payment by your health insurer of your surgery costs is your full responsibility.

Patients having surgery under ACC

If your treatment is covered by ACC, your specialist will seek approval for surgery on your behalf. You will need to provide your claim number and the name of your ACC Case Manager, if you have one. Once approval is obtained, you will receive a confirmation letter from ACC. Your surgery will then be booked and following your procedure/surgery the hospital will submit your accounts to ACC.

If your procedure or surgery is only partially funded by ACC, you will be required to pay a portion of the account yourself. This part-payment may be covered by your insurance policy.

Patients Without Private Health Insurance or ACC Cover

If you do not have approved funding from your insurance company or ACC, you will be required to make a payment in advance of surgery being undertaken, usually at the time of your admission. If this is the case, you will be contacted by our bookings staff prior to your admission so that arrangements can be discussed.

If you have any concerns regarding your account please contact us within 7 days of the invoice date.

EFTPOS, MasterCard and Visa facilities are available on site. Personal and bank cheques are also accepted. Direct credit payments can also be made. Please contact our staff for bank account details.
